Our History

South Lincs Foodservice has over the years had many changes. The company started pre war as a transport company called Batleys. The transport business was lost to nationalization in 1949 and the owners at the time diversified into chilled locker storage to local farmers for game and meat storage.

The domestic freezer boom of the 1950's saw a decline in this trade and after a visit to America to study the frozen food industry they returned to take their first steps into frozen food wholesaling. Brand names such as Ross Foods and Eskimo Foods were distributed whilst an increasing demand from caterers saw the product range increase quickly.

The business developed in catering and the company opened a small freezer centre opposite their depot on St Thomas's Road, Spalding. In the late 1970's the business changed hands and was bought by a local farming family the Casswell's and continued trading in the same manner.

In 1991 the opportunity arose for the Spenceley family to purchase the business along with another smaller company in Holbeach, Lincolnshire. Still growing steadily by 1998 we had out grown the Spalding premises and moved to our current purpose built depot in Sutterton. Over the next 6 years the site was expanded greatly to enable the company to service their ever expanding customer base and product range.

In early 2004 the decision was made to move into new areas including chilled and ambient products. After a successful first 12 months we had the opportunity to aquire another company "Chefs Trolley Ltd" in Lincoln and this was moved to Sutterton in June 2005.

South Lincs are now looking to the future with investment in people, IT systems, buildings and vehicles all planned, along with the introduction of many new product ranges.
